What is Depression?

 

In Australia on average, one in five women and one in eight men are likely to experience depression in their lifetime1.

 

Depression is a mental health condition affecting how people think and feel about themselves and the world around them. It can last for weeks, months or even longer.

 

Depression is not something you can just ignore and hope it’ll go away.  If untreated it can have a detrimental impact in your life.  Life could become overwhelming and a daily struggle. You could begin to withdraw from family and friends.  You may begin to ask yourself “what’s the point of it all!” and even contemplate harming yourself.
