Understanding how your brain works is the first step to getting the support you deserve

If you’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on for you or your child, this is where you can get some clear answers. Our neuro-affirming Autism, ADHD, cognitive, educational and behavioural assessments help get to the bottom of what’s been getting in the way, and give you a clear, practical way forward.

Available Australia-wide via telehealth (ADHD assessments only), or in person at our North Melbourne clinic.

Making sense of patterns that haven’t been explained yet

For many neurodivergent people, and for the parents and families supporting them, daily life may involve a layer of friction that’s hard to explain to others. Just a constant sense that something isn’t adding up, and the effort being put in isn’t reflected in the outcomes, or that support is being withheld due to a lack of formal documentation.

If any of these feel familiar, you’re not alone:

You’ve always felt something was different, but couldn’t explain it

You’ve worked hard to keep up, often putting in more effort than others while making it look manageable on the surface. You’ve been told you’re capable or that everyone struggles sometimes, but there’s a sense your experience isn’t quite the same.

The support is there, but you can’t access it without the right documentation

NDIS funding, school adjustments, workplace accommodations, early intervention and specialist referrals often rely on a formal assessment. Without it, many are left advocating for support without the evidence needed to move forward.

You want to understand your child, not just label them

You’re not looking for a diagnosis just for formality. You want your child to be understood, their strengths recognised, and clear, practical guidance you can use to support them during their key developmental years.

A psychological assessment gives you something to work with

Noticing something different is one thing. Having it properly assessed, documented, and explained is where you can actually do something about it. An assessment gives you a detailed, accurate idea of how you or your child experiences the world, where the challenges are coming from, and what support will help them going forward.

At Vida Psychology, our assessments are neuro-affirming. We look at your full picture, strengths and challenges together, and produce clear, comprehensive reports that are written to be put into action immediately. Whether that’s an NDIS application, a school or work support request, or simply understanding what kind of support will help most.

The right assessment turns uncertainty into something you can act on.

Find the right assessment for you

Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment

Age 5+

If you suspect you or your child is finding it difficult to perform at school, work, or with everyday tasks, despite knowing what needs to be done, an ADHD assessment can help make sense of why and what can help.

Child assessments completed by child psychologist: $1325 + GST. Prices are inclusive of both the administration of the intake session, administration of the assessment, report writing time and the feedback session.

What’s involved:

N

An initial interview (approx. 50 minutes) for adults or with a parent or carer for children under 18

N

A structured assessment interview (approx. 50 minutes), also involving a parent or carer where relevant

N

Questionnaires completed afterwards by you and someone who knows you well (e.g. parent and teacher for children, or a parent, close family member or close friend for adults)

N

A feedback session (approx. 50 minutes), held around two weeks later, where results and recommendations are explained

Please note that as psychologists, we are not able to prescribe medication. We do provide therapeutic interventions for ADHD, and if medication is something you’d like to explore, your GP can refer you to a psychiatrist, paediatric psychiatrist or paediatrician to confirm your diagnosis and explore that pathway.

What’s involved:

N

An initial interview (approx. 50 minutes) for adults or, with either a parent or carer, for children under 18

N

Administration of the MIGDAS assessment (approx. 120 minutes), focusing on sensory experience, patterns of behaviour and strengths

N

A Cognitive Assessment (approx. 90 minutes), if needed

N

A feedback session (approx. 50 minutes), held around two weeks later, where results and recommendations are explained

Autism assessments for children under 18 years of age are best completed as part of a multidisciplinary process. At Vida Psychology, we prefer to work collaboratively with your GP, paediatric psychiatrist or paediatrician to confirm diagnosis. In some cases, input from a speech pathologist or occupational therapist may also be required. We also provide therapeutic support alongside the assessment process.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment

Age 2+

An autism assessment may be useful if you suspect you or your child is autistic or perhaps someone close to you has raised this possibility, e.g. a parent, health professional or educator who knows you or your child well. Exploring your neurotype can help you and others better understand your strengths and get the support you need to thrive. At times, a Cognitive assessment alongside the Autism Assessment may be needed. This will be explored in the initial interview.

Child assessments completed by child psychologist: $1855 + GST. Adult assessments by a provisional psychologist: $1000 + GST Prices are inclusive of both the administration of the intake session, administration of the assessment, report writing time and the feedback session.

Cognitive Assessments

Age 6-17

A cognitive assessment looks at underlying thinking and learning ability, including patterns of strengths and difficulties. It can be used alongside other assessments to identify intellectual difficulties, giftedness or learning differences, and provides a clearer understanding of how your child learns best.

It can help explain why school feels harder than it should, or why your child isn’t feeling challenged.

Child assessments completed by child psychologist: $1590 + GST. Adult assessments by a provisional psychologist: $1200 + GST. Prices are inclusive of both the administration of the intake session, administration of the assessment, report writing time and the feedback session.

What’s involved:

N

An initial interview (approx. 50 minutes) only with either a parent or carer

N

Administration of the assessment (approx. 90 minutes), using either the WISC or WAIS, depending on your child’s age

N

A feedback session (approx. 50 minutes), held around two weeks later, where results and recommendations are explained

Educational Assessments

Ages 4+ (school age)

An educational assessment looks at academic skills and learning ability in relation to what’s expected for your age or year level. It can be used alongside a cognitive assessment to identify learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia, as well as areas of strength.

It helps build a clearer picture of how your child is performing at school and what adjustments or support may help them thrive.

Partial educational assessment: $1325 + GST. Full educational assessment: $1855 + GST. Prices are inclusive of both the administration of the intake session, administration of the assessment, report writing time and the feedback session.

What’s involved:

N

An initial interview (approx. 50 minutes) only with a parent or carer

N

Administration of the WIAT assessment (one or two sessions of approx. 75 minutes, depending on the scope)

N

Administration of the WISC assessment (one or two sessions of approx. 75 minutes, depending on the scope)

N

A feedback session (approx. 50 minutes), held around two weeks later, where results and recommendations are explained

In instances when a previous cognitive assessment was completed within 1–2 years, only a partial assessment may be required.

Not sure which assessment is the right fit?

That’s completely okay. Most people aren’t sure where to start, and working that out is part of what we’re here for.

Why choose Vida Psychology for a psychological assessment

Our approach is neuro-affirming

We approach neurodivergence as a difference to be understood, not a deficit to be managed. You’ll receive a full scope of your strengths and challenges, with recommendations focused on helping you live at your best.

We work across all ages and abilities

Our assessments are available from age two through to adulthood, including presentations that are frequently missed, such as late-identified adults, girls, and women whose profiles differ from the traditional diagnostic identity.

We use best-practice tools and a collaborative process

Our Autism assessments use the MIGDAS, a neuro-affirming process focused on sensory experience, patterns, and strengths. Where a multidisciplinary approach is required, we work collaboratively with the identified specialist.

Support doesn’t stop after the assessment

We provide counselling and therapeutic support alongside our assessments, so if you want to continue working with us after the assessment, that pathway is already there with a team that knows your history.

We offer support Australia-wide

We welcome clients in person at our North Melbourne clinic, and offer telehealth sessions for some assessments. Wherever you are in Australia, we’re here to help.

Every client is treated as an individual

No two people present the same way, and no two assessments look the same. We take the time to understand your history, concerns, and goals before we begin, and every recommendation we make is grounded in your specific situation.

Got questions?

Who are your assessments for?

Our assessments are available for children, adolescents, and adults. We work with clients from age two upwards, across all stages of life, from young children whose parents have developmental concerns through to adults who have spent years wondering whether an assessment might finally explain some of the challenges they’ve faced.

What does neuro-affirming actually mean?

A neuro-affirming assessment approaches neurodivergence as a difference in how the brain works, rather than as a disorder to be corrected. In practice, this means the assessment process and the accompanying report focus on your full picture, including your strengths, your patterns of thinking, and the supports that would genuinely help you, rather than measuring you purely against a neurotypical standard.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. While our practice is based in North Melbourne and we welcome clients for in-person appointments, we also offer telehealth sessions for some assessments for those who prefer to engage remotely, are located outside of Melbourne, or find attending in person difficult. Please get in touch, and we can discuss the best option for your situation.

Do you work with other health professionals during the assessment?

Yes, and for some assessments, this is best practice. Autism assessments in particular benefit from a multidisciplinary approach, and we’re happy to liaise with your GP, psychiatrist, paediatric psychiatrist, paediatrician, speech pathologist, or occupational therapist throughout the process. Letting us know about other professionals involved in your care at the outset means we can coordinate appropriately from the start.

Can I access ongoing support after my assessment?

Yes. We provide counselling and therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and adults alongside our assessment services. If you’d like to continue working with us after your assessment, to process your results, build practical strategies, or address related concerns, we can arrange that as part of your ongoing care.

How do I get started?

You can contact us via the contact form below or call us to chat with our team to talk through which assessment pathway makes the most sense for your situation. No referral is required to enquire, though a GP referral may be relevant depending on your circumstances and goals.

If you’ve spent long enough wondering, it’s time to get some answers

A psychological assessment gives you a clear understanding of what’s been going on, the documentation to back it up, and a team ready to support you through what comes next.
