Childhood Anxiety

Always There To Care

Learn to be care free!

Is being spontaneous and care free difficult for your child?  Questions such as ‘What If I don’t do well?, ‘what if people don’t like me?’ are regularly asked.  Physical complains such as stomach aches, nausea, headaches and sleep difficulties are all too common.

If this sounds familiar, it is likely your child may be experiencing Anxiety.

What is Childhood Anxiety?

Anxiety is the most common reason for parents seeking Psychological intervention at Vida Psychology.  It is characterised by excessive worry about things such as grades, friendships and performance in sports for instance.  On the one hand it can be great seeing your child planning ahead of time and be organised.  On the other it is hard seeing your child becoming overwhelmed when things don’t go as planned or your child is faced with uncertainty. Because children who experience anxiety tend to fear uncertainty, it is usual for them to over-plan.  Unfortunately when things don’t go as planned these children experience high levels of anxiety as they believe they have no control over their environment.

If untreated, Anxiety could have a detrimental effect on your child’s physical health and their emotional well-being. Some of the physical symptoms your child could experience are stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, headaches, sleep difficulties, nail biting and bed wetting. This in turn can impact your child’s self-esteem, confidence and ability to make friends.
