Greenspan’s Developmental Individual-difference Relationship-Based Model (DIR)/ Floortime Model

Greenspan’s Developmental Individual-difference Relationship-Based Model (DIR)/ Floortime Model was designed specifically to be used with children diagnosed with Autism spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental disorders.

DIR/Floortime Model promotes your child’s sensory, emotional and cognitive development as well as their communication and motor skills. This is done by encouraging interactions through play.  A large number of these interactions take place on the floor.

Your Psychologist will make an Assessment to get an understanding of your child’s development. Intervention recommended will be based on this assessment.

Examples of interventions are things such as:

  • Floortime: This involves a play-based interaction
  • Problem Solving: This involves presenting your child with a challenge to solve aimed at teaching your child something new.
  • Specialised activities: this aims at helping your child with sensory development and engagement with others.

DIR/ Floortime Model not only promotes your child’s general development, but also improves your interaction with your child.

Our Child and Adolescent Psychologists are highly trained in the DIR/Floortime Model.  Call on 9328 3636 to organise an appointment time.
